In this interview, Philip Lowe, Head of DG Energy, describes the challenges arising from the high cost of renewable energy and the Europe’s decreasing competitiveness vis-à-vis the USA and Asia. It is often overlooked that between 2005 and 2007 the original stated goal of renewable energy subsidies in Europe was to reduce overall costs for the consumer, he says.

Philip Lowe discusses more of these questions during a Siemens Roundtable Talk, see http://www.energy.siemens.com/hq/en/energy-topics/tradeshows/wec-2013/round-table.htm
